Saturday, August 4th 2007, Wake up time: 11:00am
I woke up to the smell of bacon and pancakes! I began the day by doing some chores to help tidy the place up. We swept the front deck as there were overhanging branches and they had dropped some of their leaves and other bits onto the porch, making it very dirty. We decided to do something different. We wanted to go into a town nearby called Chatham. I wanted to do some shopping, as it was my nan's birthday on the 9th of August and I wanted to post a present to her.
We headed out to Chatham, but stopped at a bird watchers store first, something Ralph and Bev were interested in. We arrived in Chatham and began to look around at the local shops. After a short while shopping around, we found a lovely shop that sold hand made jewellery. It was perfect and I bought my nan a necklace and earrings set for a reasonable price of $25! We carried on and we stopped off for lunch, which was Insalata Salad (slices of mozzarella cheese with tomatoes and basil seasoned with salt and pepper.) I had a cream soda to drink.
After lunch, we carried on looking at the various shops, as I wanted to pick up a birthday card to go with the gift. I found a small shop and picked up a very lovely card. We went on a walk out of town and round a woodland area. As we returned, we stopped off for ice-cream (I had a maple walnut) at a store that made its own ice-cream. It was easily the best ice-cream I've ever had!
We returned home around four and passed the afternoon with a game of go-fish. For those unfamiliar with the rules, You are dealt out seven cards to each player. The idea is to make a set, so, four kings, four threes etc. You ask a player for cards your looking for, and if they have them they must give them up. You can then ask again. If you are unsuccessful, they tell you to 'go fish.' You then pick up a card from the pile in the middle. However, if you pick up a card you asked for, you may go again...if not, it's the end of your turn.
Lyle and I then watched some television, an episode of Friends and then The Simpsons. It was time for dinner, which was a quick and easy Mac n' Cheese. I still had an itch to play Liverpool Rummy, so I suggested we start another game. I was eager to win, so I worked hard to convince everyone to get involved. We got through the first couple of rounds and then took a break to have some brownie cake before bed. Before we retired, we made plans for the next day. We had visited most of the beaches, so we were working out what to do with the days we had remaining. We decided to go see a bird sanctuary and art gallery. Once plans had been finalised, we headed to bed. A nice change to the day, I like swimming but too much is just dull.
Thanks for listening.
