The trip wasn't too long and Connecticut was beautiful. There was a lot of tall trees and woodland surrounding Lyle's Grandma's house. The first thing I noticed as I stepped out the car was the heat. I had thought Arlington was hot, but it was boiling! It was so uncomfortable. I had met Lyle's Grandma when she came to visit while Lyle was in England. She was a sweet, old lady. She showed us where we'd be sleeping and then asked us what we'd like to do. We were both tired out from the trips and the heat. She said we could watch some videos and she had a whole load of films in her closet.
Just as a warning, this week was so hot that a lot of it was spent watching films from my childhood. I will be mostly talking about those as we did very little apart from sleep or eat! The first film Lyle and I sat through was Jumanji. A very good film if you're about ten! However, Robin Williams is good in it and it is a great adventure film. After it had finished, Lyle and I went outside to play baseball. We stayed outside maybe...ten minutes? Seriously, it was far too hot for any proper activities!
We came indoors and I chose Mrs. Doubtfire to watch, we clearly love Robin Williams. Another very amusing and heartwarming film. Once again though, you have to be about 10 to enjoy it. Though Mara Wilson (who played Matilda) is adorable as the young daughter. It was around lunch time so we stopped the film and went and had tuna sandwiches with lettuce. We then resumed watching the film.
It was the late afternoon, and so Lyle and I watched some telly to pass the time. We watched Seinfeld and The Simpsons. So much telly in one day cannot be good for you. Grandma called us for dinner, which consisted of delicious ham and pineapple with some fries on the side. We had a desert of a homemade fudge cake which was delicious.
To round off the evening, guess what we did? Yup, more television. I'm sorry today's excerpt has been so dull but it was far too hot to do anything exciting. I loved re-living my childhood with some films that gave me that wonderful sense of nostalgia. Lyle's Grandma was understanding and didn't try and make us go outside once. More tomorrow, where we actually went outside!
Thanks for listening.
