Tuesday, July 10th 2007, Wake up time: 9:15am
We started the day off early as I wanted to get some more clothes shopping done. The first place we headed to was Wall-Mart. Wall-Mart is the epitome of America in some regards. It is a cheap shop that does everything from clothes to batteries to CDs. There were some great Levis for only $20 (that's about £10!) I looked around some more and noticed a bargain bin with two DVDs for $10. I picked up Road to Perdition (a great Tom Hanks film) and The Pagemaster. The Pagemaster is another one from my childhood that I fondly remember and based on the cast list you assume it'd be great...more on that later.
We paid for our stuff and then headed to JC Pennys, a slightly more up-market chain store. It was here that I picked up some more t-shirts, due to the extreme weather. Four for $20, not bad at all if I say so! The last place we went to was Target, another chain. Slightly more expensive than Wall Mart, it cost $33 for two pairs of shorts. A pretty successful amount of purchases and, in terms of the conversion, very little spent!
We got home just in time for lunch. Lyle's grandma made us some Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, a truly wonderful American delicacy. It sounds gross but it's delicious. After lunch, we sat down to watch The Pagemaster, after me telling Lyle how great I found it as a child. Unfortunately, it was not as good as I remember. It wasn't a BAD film...it just was a bit silly and the plot wasn't great. Although the voice acting is brilliant, I ruined a good memory, but at least I know for the future!
Grandma suggested we go for a swim to cool off in the heat and get some exercise. There was a small lake nearby with a swimming area cordoned off. It was really lovely to swim under the hot sun, it was a lovely cooling effect out of the warm weather. We swam for about an hour or so, mainly talking and splashing about rather than proper swimming, though I did a couple of lengths. We returned home around at half four. I was in the mood for another film (see a pattern developing?) I popped in Road to Perdition. It was considerably better than The Pagemaster, and it was one of the few times I've seen Tom Hanks do a really serious role. It's rather emotional to in parts, and there's a small part from Jude Law!
We stopped around the mid-way point for some dinner. We had a delicious combination of hot dogs and macaroni and cheese! I think it's healthy enough. (How often have I eaten hot dogs though?!) We finished the evening off with another round of television until I wanted to go to bed. I was trying to get to sleep slightly earlier than usual, most days I'd been going to bed about 11pm or 12am. I'm afraid tomorrow was no better for entertainment, but bear with me, events do happen later on.
Thanks for listening.
