Thursday, September 6th 2007, Wake up time: 6:45am
I woke up extremely early to get to school on time. I got ready and began the walk. I arrived and I met my counsellor Mrs. Buckley for my map of the school (most useless map ever!) and then I went to 'home room' which is just like the registration room. I met Mr. McCarthy, a really easy-going guy who was going to sign me in each morning. I had my schedule and found out that my first lesson was Drama. I got there a little early and I thought I was late, but it was my teacher's home room. I introduced myself and when the class arrived we played a name game. I introduced myself as James Matthew Wallis the Third because I'm obnoxious and wanted to be as British as possible. Mr. Byrne, my teacher asked us to help decorate his class. I got to put up the poster with The Godfather as I was wearing my t-shirt with Al Pacino and Marlon Brando on it!
I then headed to Algebra and met my teacher and we did some basic problems to asses the level of the class. I would decide later on that I'd find it easier if I dropped down one Algebra class, I'm rubbish at Maths, I can't be great at everything okay? I headed off to my American Literature class where we did the basic introductions (once again, all were in awe of the fact I was British) and we then described ourselves as if we were a kitchen appliance. I then headed off to my first ever lunch break. I had pizza, pasta and chips for lunch and then headed to my Psychology class.
Unfortunately, I was late! I had gone to the wrong lunch break and therefore missed the first part of the class. I then went on a second lunch break and just sat awkwardly by myself. :( You best be feeling sorry for me. I returned to Psychology and was set my first piece of homework. We had to create posters about ourselves so our teacher could understand us better. I had been set a piece of English, but that was minor work.
After Psychology ended, I headed off to Directed Study. This was a period which was set aside so you had an hour to catch up with any work you had. I didn't have the materials to do my Psychology so I just sat for an hour...as once again, I didn't know anyone. :( When I re-arranged my schedule later on in the year, I got a fantastic directed study line up...all of them in my last period, so on occasion I could just go home an hour early! Such fun!
After the dull directed study, I had my last lesson of the day, which was French. I met Michelle and Walker, who became a really good friend over the school year. We introduced ourselves...but I found one minor problem. I definitely wasn't ready for honours French... I finished the day and walked home, bumping into Alex, Laura, Claire, Katelyn and Shayna. We went to the park briefly before heading home.
I arrived home and watched more of Scarface (with the f-bomb and bullet counter on!) I did my English work quickly before dinner, which was just an amusing letter of introduction. I bashed it out, attempting to be informal and formal at the same time. She greatly enjoyed it either way. I had dinner of Pork and Rice before doing my Psychology poster with Claire's artistic help. A very interesting and fun first day! I was looking forward to getting to know everyone, and learning the most I could.
Thanks for listening.
